Aired on March 16th, 2024, hosted by Queen Latifah in Shrine Auditorium, Los Angeles, the ceremonial event of the 55th NAACP Image Awards celebrated and honored the talents and skills of performers in motion pictures, television, music, and literature representing the 2023 calendar year. The Image Awards website responsibly projected the categories of non-televised Image Awards from March 11-14. The nominations for performance categories were shortlisted on public voting.
Setting a firm grip on the red carpet, the spectacular film, “The Color Purple” took all the lead in motion picture categories with 13 nominations randomly. The actor Colman Domingo in the film also made his marks at the event with 3 nominations. Usher banged the award for the entertainer of the year highlighting works by entertainers and writers of colours.
The multi-Grammy winner could not stop himself thanking his supporters while receiving the award from Oprah Winfrey. Barrino won the Best Actress award for her performance in the motion picture ‘The Color Purple’. Henson and Domingo took the best supporting roles award for the film, ‘The Color Purple’.
Domingo also won the Best Actor award for his role in ‘Snowfall’ which was a drama television series. Poet, writer, and activist Amanda Gorman was honored with the ‘Chairman’s Award’ at the NAACP event. The ‘Vanguard Award’ was lifted by creative director and costume designer June Ambrose.
The 55th NAACP Image Award stage leveraged stars to award their talents who not only lifted trophies but also made style statements in an array of attractions highlighting the galaxy.
