Dhruv Rathee was born into a HaryanviJaat family in the Indian state of Haryana. He went to a CBSE school in Haryana for his learning, and then he went to Germany to get his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. And also got his master’s degree in Renewable Energy. In his first foray into the political realm, he blasted the newly elected BJP government in a video titled “BJP Exposed: Lies Behind The Bullshit” in 2014. After that, he became well-known in 2016 for debunking “ineffective” government claims made by Arvind Kejriwal’s critic, YouTuber Ajay Sehrawat. As Dhruv put it, “When I saw people sharing Ajay Sehrawat’s videos without checking the facts, I realized the need to present actual research in front of them so that they understand the truth.”
Following this, Dhruv produced a number of video series in which he investigated and debunked many rumors and falsehoods, including those surrounding the 2016 Uri incident, the 2016 Indian Line of Control Strike, the 2016 Indian Banknote Bandi(demonetization), and the 2016 Gurmehar Kaur controversy. He debuted the “fake news” segment Pee News in which he mocked the BJP and Hindutva ideology. A lawyer for Vikas Pandey, who calls himself a “Bharatiya Janata Party Volunteer,” also made a police complaint against Rathee in Delhi on May 9, 2018. Vikas wrote a letter of complaint against Dhruv and sued him for 15 lakhs for slander.
In November 2020, actress Kangana Ranaut replied to Dhruv Rathee’s video going viral about her. She said that he stole a lot of money to make the video. In his video, Dhruv said that Kangana’s statements are contradictory and that she often gives her opinions more weight than they deserve. Dhruv Rathee made a movie about her and lied that BMC sent her a notice in 2018. I can put him in jail for that,” she said.
